4 Reasons Why Your Email Marketing Might Not Be Working!

#1 You love your template, but your audience doesn't.

This is so common. It's natural to fall in love with your email design - but that doesn't mean our audience will share our opinion. Your emails need to connect with your audience to maximize email marketing success. When I start working with a new client, I first want to know if they have A/B tested their template. If the answer is yes and they show me it won, we move on to number 4. If they don't, we A/B test a template to see what their audience wants.

#2 You purchased a list or collected a list without getting an opt-in.

I want to scream when I hear brands purchase lists because most of these lists are garbage. Buying a list may sound like an easy fix for gaining more subscribers, but it will cost you more than money. Please read this; none of the reputable sending platforms allow this type of data to be loaded into their systems. If you are caught, they will penalize you and, in some cases, will close your account. Save yourself the trouble and ensure you obtain subscribers the right way with opt-in only!

#3 You aren't sending with any frequency.

We have all seen this. You sign up for an email list, and you have yet to hear from the brand, and then, a year or years later, they suddenly wind up starting to send emails, and you don't even remember that you signed up. Frequency matters, and while there is no set best practice around frequency, sending at a minimum of monthly is best. However, I suggest that you will see better results with weekly sends, depending on your business.

#4 You don't have a strategy - even a simple one.

While I list this last, this is the most important. A strategy doesn't have to be super complex. You can have a simple one but thinking strategically about your email marketing and how it impacts your business will be crucial to success. Building a pretty email is one thing, but a strategy behind who, when, and what you send, will show results. I believe in this to the extent that I offer a strategy session at a low cost, even if you don't work with me for your ongoing email marketing efforts.

The bottom line is that email marketing works when done correctly. If you think email marketing doesn't work for your brand, I hope you will review the above to ensure you meet with success with your email marketing efforts.
