Last Minute Black Friday & Cyber Monday Tips

The biggest email marketing day is a week away. Here are a few last-minute tips to make your emails successful for the day:

  • Determine if you need to email on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Yes, it is the biggest email day of the year, but that doesn't mean you must send an email on that day. Depending on your business type, you might be better off waiting till later in the week.

  • Know the best time to send it to your list! By the time I wake up on Friday morning, I will likely have north of 300 emails in my inbox. I subscribe to many emails, but understanding your send time is essential if you want solid engagement. Use those send-time optimization features. MailChimp has this built-in, as do many others.

  • Consider your resend strategy. We all get busy; sometimes, we click on an email and get pulled away. A smart resend strategy is vital not just on Black Friday & Cyber Monday but always.

  • Don't just rely on social media. November 2 was a good reminder that your email list is yours while social media relies on algorithms. I woke up to a feed of Halloween posts from businesses. The content was great but outdated, and someone spent time on a post they thought I would see on Halloween. Email hits the inbox on the date you send.

  • Lastly, let's remember Small Business Saturday. If you are a Small Business, this is your day to shine, but also remember that you want to retain customers even after that, so make sure your Small Business Saturday strategy includes a sold stream of post-purchase emails.
